Pearson is hiring a remote Senior Software Engineer from Spain to join its AI-focused English Language Learning division.

In this role, you will design, build, and scale backend systems that power digital learning products, including solutions that integrate AI and large language models.

You’ll work closely with product, data, and engineering teams to deliver high-impact features and contribute to the technical direction of key projects.

This is a senior individual contributor role requiring strong ownership, autonomy, and the ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

What You Will Do

• Design, implement, and maintain backend components for digital products
• Build scalable services, APIs, and microservices architectures
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define requirements and timelines
• Lead technical initiatives and promote best engineering practices
• Support integration and operationalization of AI/LLM-based features
• Contribute to architecture decisions and system design
• Ensure code quality, reliability, and performance
• Mentor and support other engineers in the team

Requirements

• Strong experience in software engineering and backend development
• Experience with AI/LLM integrations or data-driven systems
• Knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
• Experience with microservices, APIs, and scalable system design
• Familiarity with CI/CD, Agile practices, and modern development workflows
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
• Ability to work independently and in cross-functional teams
• Excellent English communication skills
