Pearson is hiring a Software Engineering Manager to lead AI-driven product teams within its English Language Learning division.

You will manage engineering squads building scalable digital learning and assessment products powered by AI, supporting learners worldwide.

This is a hands-on engineering leadership role, combining team management, technical strategy, and product delivery ownership.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Engineering Leadership
  Lead and grow software engineering + data science teams
  Mentor engineers and support career development
  Remove delivery blockers and improve team efficiency
  Build an inclusive, high-performance engineering culture
• Technical & Product Ownership
  Co-own product direction with Product Managers
  Define technical strategy for AI-powered learning products
  Oversee full SDLC (design → build → deploy → maintain)
  Enforce engineering standards (Clean Code, DDD, DevOps practices)
• Cross-Functional Work
  Collaborate with Product, Design, QA, Data, Ops, and Customer teams
  Translate business requirements into technical solutions
  Act as main technical point of contact for your products
• Delivery & Execution
  Own roadmap execution, budgeting, and capacity planning
  Ensure timely delivery of scalable, high-quality systems
  Track progress and ensure outcome-based delivery
• AI & Data Focus
  Drive AI integration into learning products
  Own data flows and ensure business-ready insights
  Stay current with AI trends and apply them to product strategy

Requirements

• Experience leading software engineering teams
• Strong background in software development lifecycle (SDLC)
• Hands-on experience with Java, Python, PHP, Kotlin, C++, or similar
• Experience with React / Node.js or similar frameworks
• Agile development experience (Scrum, product delivery, etc.)
• Familiarity with DevOps, CI/CD, cloud systems
• Strong communication across technical and non-technical teams
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and squads
• Strong problem-solving and system thinking skills
• Experience in AI or data-driven products is a plus
