About This Opportunity
Pearson’s English Language Learning team is looking for a Software Engineer Specialist level to help build and maintain digital learning products across web applications, APIs, and mobile experiences.
This role sits within a cross-functional engineering team focused on delivering scalable, secure, and observable software services across Pearson’s global learning ecosystem.
You’ll work closely with Product, Design, and QA in an agile environment, contributing directly to features used in educational platforms worldwide.

What You Will Do
- Develop and maintain features across web applications (frontend and backend)
- Build and integrate REST APIs and backend services
- Write clean, maintainable code with basic test coverage
- Participate in code reviews and collaborative development
- Debug and resolve bugs and performance issues
- Work with Product and Design to define and refine solutions
- Participate in agile ceremonies (standups, planning, reviews, retrospectives)
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience
- 2–4+ years of software engineering experience
- Strong experience with Node.js, TypeScript, JavaScript
- Experience with modern frontend frameworks
- Experience building and consuming REST APIs
- Basic understanding of SQL or NoSQL databases
- Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS or Azure)
- Exposure to DevOps practices and containerization
- Experience with Git version control
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Advanced English proficiency
- Self-driven, proactive problem-solving mindset
- Nice to have
Strong experience with scalable cloud-native systems
Experience in education or large-scale consumer platforms
