Remote Location Services Engineer From Europe Full Time
About This Opportunity
MapTiler is hiring a Location Services Engineer to help build and improve the technology behind its global mapping services.
This role focuses on geospatial systems, including geocoding, routing, elevation, and large-scale location data processing.
The engineer will work with databases, data pipelines, and backend systems that power location-based products used by millions of users worldwide.

What You Will Be Doing
- Maintaining and optimizing geocoding, routing, and other location service servers
- Improving local databases to enhance search results and routing accuracy
- Processing and transforming large-scale geospatial datasets into specialized data structures
- Developing pipelines for geographic data sources such as OpenStreetMap and elevation data
- Managing automated data processing workflows, releases, and testing processes
- Monitoring location services performance and implementing targeted improvements
- Managing datasets used across different MapTiler teams
- Designing, reviewing, and improving code solutions
- Taking ownership of codebases, databases, and technical requirements
- Collaborating with engineering teams and stakeholders to deliver reliable location services
What They’re Looking For
- Strong programming experience with hands-on software development skills
- Experience with system design, databases, and technical problem-solving
- Strong understanding of data structures and database concepts
- Experience working with at least one programming language such as TypeScript, Java, Rust, or C++
- Ability to write clean, maintainable, and reliable code
- Understanding of OpenStreetMap data models and limitations
- Knowledge of GIS concepts and coordinate systems
- Interest in maps, geocoding, routing, and location technology
- Ability to work independently and communicate effectively in a remote environment
- Strong English communication skills
- Nice to have:
Experience with Python, Ansible, or Bash scripting
Experience with Docker
Knowledge of OpenStreetMap data-processing tools such as Osmium
Experience working with OSM tagging schemas
Experience using AI coding tools or AI agents in development workflows
Experience with prompt/context engineering or harness engineering
