About This Opportunity

Chess.com is hiring a remote VP of Media & Content to lead and scale its global content and media operations across video, social media, editorial, broadcast, and international content teams.

This is a senior executive leadership role focused on operational excellence, production management, team leadership, media strategy, and content-driven partnerships.

The ideal candidate is an experienced media executive who thrives in fast-moving digital environments and knows how to manage large-scale content ecosystems while maintaining high production standards.

This role requires balancing operational leadership with hands-on involvement in content quality, production workflows, partnerships, and audience engagement.

Reporting directly to the Chief Chess Officer, this leader will oversee cross-functional media operations, manage senior leadership teams, and help shape how chess content is consumed globally across platforms like YouTube, Twitch, TikTok, and social media.

What You Will Do

• Content & Media OperationsLead and scale global media and content teams across multiple platforms
  Oversee video production, editorial, social media, and broadcast operations
  Manage content calendars, workflows, production pipelines, and delivery schedules
  Ensure content quality, consistency, and brand alignment across all channels
  Set KPIs, track performance metrics, and drive accountability across teams
  Build scalable operational processes and team structures
  Support and mentor Directors, VPs, and senior leaders within the organization
  Identify production bottlenecks and proactively solve operational issues

   

• Partnerships & Commercial StrategyCollaborate with partnerships and business development teams on integrated media campaigns
  Support sponsorships, creator partnerships, branded content, and event activations
  Package content, IP, creator relationships, and community engagement into commercial opportunities
  Ensure partnerships align authentically with the Chess.com audience and brand

   

• Leadership & P&L ManagementOwn the Media department budget, resource allocation, and operational planning
  Manage headcount planning and team development across global content functions
  Establish reporting systems and operational structures for long-term scalability
  Lead cross-functional collaboration between content, partnerships, events, and international teams

What They’re Looking For

• 10+ years of leadership experience in media, digital content, gaming, sports, or entertainment
• Proven experience managing large-scale content operations and multi-functional teams
• Strong background leading Directors, VPs, and senior content leaders
• Experience overseeing media budgets, operations, and P&L ownership
• Deep understanding of digital media platforms including YouTube, Twitch, TikTok, and social media ecosystems
• Experience building scalable content production workflows and operational systems
• Strong understanding of platform-specific content strategy and audience engagement
• Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills
• Experience collaborating with creators, brands, media executives, and commercial partners
• Ability to operate in fast-paced, remote, and high-volume communication environments
• Preferred Qualifications:
  Experience in esports, gaming, live events, or sports media
  Background in partnerships, sponsorships, or business development
  Familiarity with creator economies and digital communities
  Understanding of chess, gaming culture, or online entertainment audiences
  Experience working in founder-led or startup-style organizations
