Remote Payroll Operations Manager Full Time NEW

About This Opportunity

Remote is hiring for a Remote Payroll Operations Manager from Eastern Europe to lead payroll operations across a defined group of countries, manage a team of payroll specialists, ensure accurate and compliant payroll delivery, and support global payroll implementations and process improvements.

You’ll be responsible for payroll outcomes across a defined group of countries or regions, balancing people leadership with hands-on operational ownership.

What You Will Be Doing

• Team Leadership
  Lead and support a team of payroll specialists.
  Hold the team accountable for accurate, timely, and compliant payroll delivery.
  Provide coaching, feedback, and day-to-day leadership.
  Lead investigations into payroll issues and drive resolution.
  Provide input on performance reviews and recommend performance actions when needed.
  Build a high-accountability and supportive team environment.
• Payroll Operations
  Own end-to-end payroll delivery for a defined group of countries.
  Maintain working knowledge of country-specific payroll requirements.
  Ensure payroll processes are documented, followed, and auditable.
  Manage relationships with external payroll vendors.
  Balance speed, accuracy, compliance, and customer impact.
• Global Payroll Projects
  Support new country launches, vendor transitions, and payroll in-housing projects.
  Provide country-specific payroll expertise during implementations.
  Identify operational risks and work with cross-functional teams to address them.
  Take ownership of payroll stability after new launches go live.
• Operational Improvement
  Identify recurring payroll issues, operational risks, and process gaps.
  Drive improvements that increase efficiency and reduce errors.
  Support new tools, automation, and standardized workflows.
  Track KPIs, service levels, and quality metrics.
  Support the service arm of the business, including team performance and engagement in Zendesk.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration
  Work with People Operations, Finance, Legal, Product, and Service Operations.
  Explain payroll requirements and complex issues clearly to stakeholders.
  Communicate proactively about risks, delays, and changes that could affect payroll.

What They Are Looking For

Proven experience owning payroll outcomes for a team in a regional or multi-country environment.
Experience leading, coaching, and providing performance feedback to employees.
Strong problem-solving and operational investigation skills.
Ability to apply payroll policies and controls consistently.
Experience providing input on hiring, team changes, and performance decisions.
Strong operational judgment and attention to accuracy and compliance.
Clear written and verbal communication skills, especially in remote and asynchronous environments.
Experience working with remote-first or globally distributed teams is a strong advantage.
Fluent English.
Additional languages are a plus.
