About This Opportunity

Alternative Payments is hiring a Lead Software Engineer to help build the financial operating system for SMB service businesses.

In this role, you’ll lead end-to-end technical initiatives, design scalable systems, and work closely with product and engineering leadership to shape the architecture of a fast-growing fintech platform.

You’ll operate as a hands-on technical leader, driving projects from concept to delivery while helping define engineering direction and raising the technical bar across the team.

This is a full-time remote role based in Brazil, with a strong focus on ownership, autonomy, and high-impact engineering.

Responsibilities

• Own complex engineering initiatives from design to production delivery
• Design and build scalable microservices and distributed systems
• Lead cross-functional technical initiatives and squads
• Make architecture and system design decisions with product context
• Collaborate closely with product on business and technical tradeoffs
• Improve engineering standards through code review and mentoring
• Work in a hands-on leadership capacity (not purely managerial)
• Contribute to system reliability, performance, and scalability
• Use AI tooling as part of day-to-day engineering workflows
• Coordinate delivery across engineering and business stakeholders

Requirements

• 8+ years of software engineering experience
• Strong experience in backend systems and distributed architectures
• Proficiency in Golang, Rust, or willingness to work with them
• Experience with microservices, monoliths, or distributed systems
• Hands-on experience with AWS, Kubernetes, and PostgreSQL
• Proven ability to lead projects end-to-end with ownership
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
• Business understanding of how software products generate value
• Experience in fintech, payments, or high-scale systems is a strong plus
• Fluent English for collaboration with international teams
• Nice to have:
  Previous experience as Staff Engineer, Tech Lead, or Engineering Manager
  Experience working with US-based product teams or markets
  Familiarity with event-driven systems (e.g., RabbitMQ)
  Advanced AI-assisted engineering workflows (multi-tool / agent-based)
  Experience mentoring engineers and improving team performance
