About This Opportunity

Feathr is hiring a Backend Software Engineer to help build and scale its nonprofit-focused SaaS platform used by over 1,300 organizations to improve digital marketing, advertising, and analytics capabilities.

This is an early-career to mid-level backend engineering role focused on building production systems, shipping backend features, and supporting a scalable cloud-based platform.

You’ll work closely with senior engineers and cross-functional teams to design, implement, and maintain backend services that directly power customer-facing features.

The role emphasizes hands-on development, debugging, and continuous learning within a production SaaS environment.

What You Will Do

• Backend Development
  Design and implement backend services and features for a SaaS platform
  Write production-ready code that supports real customer use cases
  Build and maintain APIs and backend workflows
• System Maintenance & Debugging
  Debug production issues including performance and data consistency problems
  Monitor systems post-deployment for correctness and reliability
  Support incident resolution and backend troubleshooting
• Collaboration & Engineering Practices
  Collaborate with frontend engineers, product managers, and other teams
  Participate in code reviews and improve code quality across the team
  Document technical solutions and share knowledge with peers
• Testing & Quality
  Write and maintain unit and integration tests
  Ensure code quality, security, and maintainability standards are met
• Infrastructure Awareness
  Work with AWS services (S3, SQS, EC2)
  Gain exposure to scalable backend systems and data storage solutions
  Support production systems and operational reliability

What They’re Looking For

• Experience
  2+ years of backend software engineering experience
  Experience shipping software to real users in production
  Ability to work in a guided, collaborative engineering environment
• Technical Skills
  Strong working knowledge of Python and Flask
  Experience with at least one of:
  MongoDB
  Elasticsearch
  Redis
• Understanding of:
  Data structures and algorithms
  Testing (unit + integration)
  Basic system design principles
  Familiarity with AWS infrastructure (S3, SQS, EC2)
  Awareness of security and compliance in SaaS systems
• Nice to Have
  Docker experience
  Kubernetes or distributed systems exposure
  Event streaming / data pipeline experience
• Soft Skills
  Strong communicator who can explain technical work clearly
  Curious, analytical problem-solver
  Comfortable with ambiguity and learning on the job
  Receptive to feedback and collaborative in team settings
  Customer-focused engineering mindset (“build for real users”)

Work Model

• Fully remote (United States only)
• Preference for Eastern or Central time zones
• Optional access to Gainesville, Florida office

• Compensation:
  Base salary: $90,000 annually
  Bonus potential: up to 12% of base salary
