Chess.com is hiring a Product Data Analyst to help drive product and business decisions through data analysis, experimentation, and scalable analytics processes.

In this role, you will work directly with product, analytics, and data science teams to uncover insights, improve data quality, and support experimentation across Chess.com’s digital products.

The ideal candidate has strong SQL and analytics experience, understands product experimentation, and is comfortable working with large-scale datasets using tools like Amplitude and BigQuery.

You’ll help define event tracking structures, develop scalable analysis workflows, and communicate actionable insights that shape product strategy and user experience.

What You Will Do

• Data Analysis & Insights

  Analyze product and user behavior data using Amplitude, BigQuery, and SQL
  Identify trends, opportunities, and insights that inform business and product decisions
  Build scalable and reproducible analyses for product and growth teams
  Support strategic decision-making through data-driven recommendations

   

• Product Experimentation

  Collaborate with product managers, analysts, and data scientists on product experiments
  Support experiment planning, design, implementation, and evaluation
  Measure experiment performance and communicate findings clearly to stakeholders
  Help improve product features and user engagement through experimentation insights

   

• Data Quality & Analytics Infrastructure

  Develop tools, workflows, and best practices to improve data quality
  Identify and prevent data errors before they reach production datasets
  Help define and maintain event taxonomy for digital consumer applications
  Ensure consistency and reliability across tracking and analytics systems

   

• Collaboration & Reporting

  Work closely with distributed teams across product, analytics, and engineering
  Present findings and actionable insights to stakeholders across the company
  Support data documentation and analytics process improvements
  Contribute to scalable analytics and reporting frameworks

What They’re Looking For

• Requirements:
  3+ years of experience in data analytics and data visualization
  Strong SQL skills and experience working with BigQuery
  Experience using Amplitude for product analytics
  Experience collaborating on product experiments from planning through evaluation
  Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills
  Excellent communication and collaboration skills in remote environments
  Experience working with distributed teams and cross-functional stakeholders

   

• Preferred Qualifications:
  Experience with Python, Jupyter Notebooks, and Git workflows
  Experience defining event taxonomy for consumer digital products
  Background in gaming, ed-tech, subscription products, or consumer applications
  Familiarity with scalable analytics workflows and experimentation frameworks
  Passion for data-driven product development and user experience optimization
